Today we've been learning all about the sun. What a wonderful afternoon we've had! So much so, that they would like to look at the websites we've been researching on even more at home.

https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/sunearth.html here we've been 'watching' the sun go round the earth! If you could visit early in the morning, or just before bed you would see an even larger difference.

Our class free verse poem
We've been studying poetry in English and today we wrote a free verse poem together about a game we love to play. We wanted to share this with you!
Bull Dog, Crawl Dog
First I ran as fast as I could to the other side.
I felt energetic because I had room for the energy because I just jumped with people.
Afterwards, when we got to the end I was out of breath. I had to run a mile and I dribbled past the catchers!
Much later all my friends were playing crawl dog. My three friends were playing crawl dog it was hard and if you got to the other side you won!
Finally a foolish dog catches me.

Reindeer visit our school!!
Last week we got to experience 2 reindeer in our playground at school, and what an incredible start to the Christmas season this was! We learnt lots of information about reindeer, from how often and when they shed their antlers to how Rudolph got his red nose ;) We even enjoyed feeding them too!
They were an awesome sight to experience and a memory the children (and us staff!) will keep forever.

Vet Visit!
We have been enjoying our Science lessons so much this term. Towards the end of the term we've been learning about the features of different animals (as well as Humans), so what better way to learn than to see what a Vet does.
A veterinary nurse from a practise nearby brought a dog (toy ...) for the children to operate on. They looked fantastic all dressed up and tackled the operation superbly!
The session finished with the children getting to feed some real guinea pigs and learn all about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
It was a wonderful visit and think there may now be some budding future Vets in our class!

Making Sensory Boards
In Science this half term we have been learning about our senses. To finish off this topic the children decided to make some sensory boards for the children in F1 to use. They included the senses of touch, sight and even smell into their sensory boards!
I was amazed at their skills of using a glue gun during this activity. Very little adult help was needed as the children took control and complete independence in their work.
A week later we went into F1 to share our work with them, we hope they enjoyed exploring them as much as we did making them!

Environmental Art - Natural Sculptures
This term Years 1 and 2 are learning all about the artwork of British artist Andy Goldsworthy, who is famous for his environmental art. We started by looking at the way he uses natural materials in his artwork, matching colours. We used pictures of different fruits and vegetables, and then sorted these according to their colours and used them to create pictures by cutting and sticking.
Next we took the cameras with us and looked for natural examples of different colours, shapes and patterns. Here are some of the photos we took of what we observed:
Cyan and Lynn spotted a circular shape around the base of this tree and lines of symmetry in the fern leaf.
Elisha, Henno and Rocco spotted a line of symmetry on this branch and liked the bright orange colour of these flowers.
Davi and Harry CD spotted the circular patterns in the tree trunk and liked looking at the reflections in the water of the pond.
Harry J and Wandile liked the texture of the tree bark and the symmetry of the feather.
Ryan and Subhan arranged these leaves in a circle and liked looking at the reflections in the water of the pond.
Rebeca and Samantha liked the bright purple/blue colour of the bluebells and the patterns made by the leaves.
Gabriell and Charlie loved the circular patterns made when stones were thrown in the pond water and liked the symmetry of the nettle leaves.
Johnny, Jonathan and Sean chose the bright colours of the orange and pink flowers,
