Roald Dahl Day Fun!

Well another new year at Newbold: welcome to the new Year 1s and welcome back to the Year 2s!

Here in Year 1 and 2 we are ready and raring to go, and what better way to start the new school year off than with a fantastic, marvellous, Dahlicious dress-up day to celebrate the achievements of the incredible author Roald Dahl. As you may be able to tell, Mrs Chilvers and Miss Hawker have gone a bit Roald Dahl mad with our curriculum (and classroom!) this term and the children certainly seem to be enjoying getting involved so far! Here are a few photos to let you know what we've been getting up to already...
Mrs Chilvers has recreated Roald Dahl's writing hut in our classroom!

So far we have read Esio Trot . We sorted out Mr Hoppy's tortoises by helping him put them in order of size,

We also thought  about the characters of Mr Hoppy and Mrs Silver and even learned how to write in tortoise! Ew era yrev doog ta ti won!

On Roald Dahl's birthday, Tuesday 13th September, we had a Roald Dahl Day party, and played party games including Boggis, Bunce and Bean (a bit like Duck, Duck Goose!)

We also played 'Pin the Newt on Miss Trunchbull'!

And we got a bit slimy and sticky playing Mrs Twit's Wormy Spaghetti!

In the classroom we also made our own Dream Jars for the BFG:

Come and have a look at our Dream Jar collection and read about our different dreams!
We are reading George's Marvellous Medicine looking at how Roald Dahl created characters like gruesome, grouchy Grandma. Watch this space as we have a go at creating and writing labels for our very own marvellous medicines!
We spent a very smelly and messy lesson using different items found in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and laundry to have a go at creating our very own medicines...

Then we wrote some descriptive phrases about the ingredients we put into our medicines...

Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory will soon be opening its gates as well...
