We set off from Maidenhead station, getting the train to Ealing Broadway where we changed onto an overground train to White City.
Everyone was pretty excited when we got to KidZania...
Then we had to queue up and get our bracelets. These would let our teachers know where we were inside KidZania to help keep us safe. We also got given 50 KidZos, which is the money we could spend and earn inside KidZania! Here are a small selection of photos of the activities we took part in. For some of them we earned extra KidZos, while we had to pay KidZos to take part in others.
Employment Office
Some of us visited the Employment Office once we got inside, where we could do a short quiz which told us what sort of jobs we should enjoy doing, If we had a go at doing these jobs, we had the chance to earn extra KidZos.
Recycling Centre
We learnt how paper is recycled and then had a go at making our own paper from recycled materials:
Animation Studio
Here we had the chance to create our own animated Pokemon movie using stop-motion animation. We used Pokémon toys from manufacturer Tomy and a number of other props to create our animation. To do this we worked in teams - one person was the director and the other was the animator.
Beauty Salon
In the Beauty Salon we could learn how to style hair in different ways. We also learnt about customer care.
Science Lab
Here we learnt how to combine different chemicals to make different bubbly, fun and fizzy products.
Supermarket
We took part in a shopping challenge where we had to find items around the store, serve customers at the till and use our mental maths skills to estimate their total bill.
Courier Service
We were also able to earn some money by delivering important packages and letters to the different businesses around the KidZania city. We were trusted to deliver these items on time as part of the courier service.
Fashion Recycling Centre
At H&M we learnt how to sort and recycle clothes in a factory. To do this we had to know the difference between synthetic and natural fibres too.
Dentist
Some of us became dentists at KidZania and learnt all about the basics of brushing, flossing and general dental care. We even got to take part in a real dental procedure as we filled the cavities on a life-like model!
Fashion Studio
In the Fashion Studio we learnt about the fundamentals of fashion! We talked about fashion trends and then had the chance to be a fashion stylist. We even got to take part in a fashion show or photo shoot!
Advertising Agency
Here we had the chance to become familiar with the different
roles within advertising and we learnt how to create a print advert which was then
distributed around the KidZania City through the Clear Channel screens. As you can see,
we had great fun with this!
Air conditioning
We trained to become a professional
air-conditioning engineer to help keep the city at an ideal temperature for the
visitors at KidZania. We learnt how air conditioning works and then got to
crawl through the pipes to repair a faulty unit!
Bank
At KidZania, if we earned more than 75 KidZos, we
had the chance to open our own bank account where we could deposit cheques and
take out cash from the ATMs around the city using our very own debit card! We
can use this if we ever come back to KidZania in the future.
City Clock
At the City Clock, we discovered a bit about the
history of timekeeping and learnt what makes a mechanical clock tick. We helped
make some repairs to the city clock and rang the bells to chime on every
quarter hour.
Climbing Buildings
Some of us took on the challenge of climbing to
the top of some of the KidZania buildings in order to activate the advert or
lights at the top of the buildings. Our teachers were really impressed with how
quick we were!
Dance Studio
In the Disco Dance Studio we had lots of fun
learning a dance routine to the chorus of the KidZania song.
Face Painting Studio
Some of us couldn't wait to spend some of our
KidZos getting our faces painted with beautiful butterfly designs!
Fruit and Nut Bar Makery
Working with Eat Natural staff, we learnt about
all the exciting ingredients that go into making a fruit and nut bar. We then
got to mix and mould our own recipe to create a real bar and even got to take
one away to enjoy on the train home!
Fire and Rescue Unit
Here we got to role play firefighting. We learnt
about basic fire safety and prevention procedure and then responded to an
emergency 999 call when the hotel was on fire!
A&E Paramedic
When a 999 emergency call comes in, the paramedics rush to
the scene to transfer patients to Alder Hey's A&E department. We got to see what it is like to respond to a medical emergency and worked with the other emergency services to do this.
Hotel
Here we learned how important hotels and their staff are
when you travel to find accommodation. We also learnt about the range of
services that hotels such as the Dorsett offer for guests and took part in a
bed making challenge!
Music Academy
The Music Academy offers a unique opportunity to learn about
rhythms and have a go at playing the drums. We practiced together as a team
then played together to an audience.
Painting School
At the Painting School we learnt about some of the great
artists and their influence on techniques. We then had the chance to create our
own work of art such as a portrait, mural or stained glass painting to take
home with us.
Police Department
We were able to become one of the police officers of
KidZania city, going out on patrol to maintain the safety and order for all
visitors to KidZania. This involved responding to emergency situations,
anonymous tips, following mysterious clues, interviewing witnesses and
cracking cases!
Power Company
As a maintenance technician at the KidZania Power Company, we learnt about energy sources, generation and safety. Then, to keep everything running smoothly, we learnt how to fix a fuse and restore power to KidZania!
Smoothie Kitchen

With Innocent Smoothies, we learnt about different types of
fruit, identified where it came from and then used it to make our very own
smoothies to drink!
The Vault
As a guard, we learnt how to identify counterfeit notes and
went out on a route around the city, delivering and collecting deactivated
KidZos.
TV Studio
In the KidZania TV Studios we took on a variety of jobs
including producing, writing and anchoring a news broadcast for the city. We
learnt how to use authentic microphones, Teleprompters and video cameras as we
recorded a news report.
Wrap Factory
We could also visit the Mission Deli Wrap Factory to learn
how they make their delicious super soft wraps. There we got to mix the ingredients,
knead the dough, press the wraps and package them up so we could take them home
to eat!
Aviation Academy
The Aviation Academy gave us the chance to understand the
tasks a pilot completes before, during and after each flight. Once we'd been
briefed, we got to experience what it was like to be a pilot or co-pilot and
fly a plane!
At the end of our visit, we were given some time to browse
the products in the KidZania Department Store and were able to spend any of the
hard-earned KidZos we had left over!
After a long and VERY busy day trying out all of these different activities, it was finally time to get the train back with lots of very happy faces!
Eventually, we arrived back at Maidenhead Station, pretty tired but having had a brilliant day out!
